Visibility is something I talk about often.
Usually, I’m talking about the way professionals show up through their headshots, personal brands, websites, LinkedIn profiles, and marketing.
But visibility isn’t only about what happens online.
Sometimes visibility means showing up right where you are.
On Saturday, September 12, Detroit City Headshots will be participating as a vendor at the Lathrup Village Music Festival, right here in Lathrup Village.
And I’m looking forward to it.
Detroit City Headshots is located in Lathrup Village, so this isn’t simply another event on the calendar for me. It’s an opportunity to connect with the community surrounding the business, meet professionals and entrepreneurs face-to-face, and introduce more people to the experience we’ve created at Detroit City Headshots.
More Than Setting Up a Booth
When you hear “vendor,” it’s easy to picture a table, a few business cards, maybe a banner, and people walking by.
But that isn’t how I’m approaching this.
I want the Detroit City Headshots booth to give people an opportunity to stop, connect, ask questions, see our work, and learn what a professional headshot experience can really look like.
Because a professional headshot is about much more than standing in front of a camera and smiling.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about expression.
It’s about making sure the person someone sees online reflects the person they are going to meet in the room.
For some people, that means updating LinkedIn.
For others, it means launching a business, stepping into leadership, pursuing speaking opportunities, refreshing a company website, or simply recognizing that the photograph they’ve been using no longer represents who they are today.
Your Image Should Grow With You
One of the things I hear all the time is:
“I know I need a new headshot.”
Usually, people already know when it’s time.
Their career has changed.
Their business has changed.
Their appearance has changed.
Their confidence has changed.
Or maybe they’re preparing for a new level of visibility and suddenly realize the photo representing them was taken years ago.
Your professional image should evolve as you do.
That doesn’t mean constantly replacing your photographs. It means recognizing when your current image no longer supports where you are going.

This is such a good reminder that visibility doesn’t begin when thousands of people suddenly discover you. It begins when you decide to show up where you are, share what you have, and keep going even when it feels like only a handful of people are paying attention.
Sometimes we become so focused on reaching the next hundred or thousand people that we forget the person reading today matters too. One reader can laugh, think, feel understood, or decide to come back tomorrow. That is already connection.
I think there is something freeing about realizing we don’t have to wait until we’re “big enough” to matter. We can create, encourage, entertain, and build relationships right where we are. Then one day we look around and realize those little steps quietly built something much bigger. ❤️
