Wisdom to Live a Godly Life
Choosing Obedience Over Appearance in a Year of Godly Wisdom
Introduction
For a long time, I thought wisdom was something you asked God for so life would be smoother, decisions would be easier, and mistakes would be fewer.
But Scripture reframes wisdom differently.
“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding.”
Proverbs 4:7
This year, my prayer has changed.
I am no longer asking God for wisdom to elevate me.
I am asking for wisdom to anchor me.
Wisdom to live a godly life.
Wisdom that governs how I choose, how I respond, and how I walk each day.
Insights for Empowerment
Scripture makes it clear that wisdom is not optional. It is foundational.
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.”
Proverbs 1:7
Godly wisdom is not about appearing spiritual, informed, or put together. It is about obedience. It is about alignment. It is about reverence for God shaping how we live in real time.
Many of us want wisdom for the big decisions, but Scripture reminds us that wisdom is just as necessary for the quiet ones. The daily choices. The boundaries we keep. The pace we refuse to rush.
Wisdom teaches us:
When to move forward and when to pause
When to speak and when to listen
When to say yes and when to walk away
James reminds us that wisdom is available, but it must be sought with humility.
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.”
James 1:5
Godly wisdom guards us from confusing progress with purpose. It reminds us that growth without godliness is not success, and movement without peace is not fruit.
A godly life is not built on intention alone.
It is built on submitted decisions.
Anchoring Prayer
This is the prayer I am carrying this year.
Lord, give me wisdom to live a godly life.
Not wisdom for appearance, but wisdom for obedience.
Not wisdom to be impressive, but wisdom to be faithful.
Order my steps, guard my choices, and shape my character.
Anchor my life in this truth.
Conclusion
I do not want wisdom as a trophy.
I want wisdom as a tool.
A tool that keeps my heart aligned with God.
A tool that protects my character.
A tool that helps me walk faithfully through every season.
Scripture reminds us why this matters.
“For wisdom is a defense as money is a defense, but the excellence of knowledge is that wisdom gives life to those who have it.”
Ecclesiastes 7:12
If I am anchored in godly wisdom, I can live with clarity, peace, and integrity no matter what the season brings.
Encouraging Nuggets
Wisdom is not about knowing more. It is about choosing better.
Obedience is wisdom lived out loud.
Godly wisdom often feels slower, but it produces peace.
Faithfulness is wisdom practiced daily.
A godly life is built one wise decision at a time.

Deb, this is a hard one.
Sometimes you’re desperately asking for help. You truly want direction. You want clarity. You want an answer that feels steady and reassuring. But the guidance you’re receiving isn’t lining up with what you hoped to hear.
And sometimes, if we’re honest, it’s not that God isn’t speaking. It’s that the answer isn’t the one we want.
That’s the wrestle.
There comes a point where we have to gently loosen our grip on our preferred outcome and open our hearts to whatever answer God gives — even if it stretches us, redirects us, or asks more of us than we planned.
Trust isn’t just asking for guidance.
It’s being willing to receive it.
